In June of this year, the first tractor from the new 800 Vario range left the assembly line in Marktoberdorf. Customers are already working with the first tractors, which feature a new electronics concept and new engine technology.
Leading edge engine technology
With the series production start of the new 800 Vario model range, Fendt offers the first tractor on the market that already complies with emissions Stage IIIb (Tier IV interim, effective 2011). To achieve this, Fendt implements SCR technology, known from the commercial vehicle sector, in which exhaust is after-treated with AdBlue urea solution. This not only reduces particle emissions, but also immensely lowers fuel consumption. The technology also permits the engine settings to be optimised, thus the tractor has exceptionally dynamic handling and high performance. Simon Esch, contractor from Steinbronn in Rhineland-Palatinate, who uses an 828 Vario in his business, confirms, “Fuel consumption is very low and it delivers convincing power.”
The average consumption of AdBlue is about seven percent of the diesel consumption. Customers can order the urea solution directly from their fuel supplier, so there is no additional effort. “Adblue” is now also available all over Western Europe and worldwide through AGCO Parts. “I'm familiar with AdBlue from commercial vehicles, it is very easy to handle and I am convinced that due to its environmental compatibility, SCR is the future,” says Fabian Riedinger, who works at the agricultural business of Manfred Schwarz in Hilzingen near Lake Constance.
Completely new vehicle concept
With the x5 cab adopted from the 900 Vario range, Fendt offers perfect working conditions in the new 800 Vario range. “The cab is very spacious and comfortable,” says Simon Esch with appreciation. The completely new vehicle concept also includes a new electronics generation, the Fendt Variotronic. The new terminal, available in two different versions, features a user-friendly interface with a flat menu hierarchy and practical touch technology. For the first time, the tractor controls, ISO bus implement control, VarioGuide automatic steering and VarioDoc documentation have been consolidated in the terminal and can all be operated using the same operating logic – all one hundred percent developed in-house at Fendt. Stefan Brunn, one of the operations managers of the Brunn Agrar GbR in Hünfelden-Kirchberg in Hesse, is also convinced by the new electronics concept: “The terminal is easy to use and you can find your way around quickly. It’s also great that you only need one terminal, because then there are no others to block your view. What I like the best about VarioGuide is that the steering is excellent and the system finds the right track, even at extreme angles.”
Forward-looking technology
With the new 800 Vario model range, Fendt has brought two completely new technologies for engines and electronics onto the market, which will be adopted by the other Vario model ranges in the upcoming years. With the new range, Fendt has succeeded in meeting the most important customer demands and developed a tractor that offers the best profitability. It is characterised by low fuel consumption and a comfortable workplace, featuring optimised functions that are easy to operate.
